Discussion Group Overview
Discussion Groups, which complement larger Member Meetings during the year, enable you to dig into a specialized subject area with a smaller group of peers on a regular basis.
This discussion group will aim to surface shared learnings and best practices for circular plastics and packaging, one of the top focus areas recently chosen by the Member Network. By attending, you’ll dive into topics like:
-
The global regulation of plastics and packaging,
-
Safety requirements,
-
Alternative materials and new technologies,
-
Consumer reception, recovery and communication,
-
Brand messaging, and
-
Materiality.
The discussion will be led by Group Chairs Farrell Calabrese, Strategic Initiatives Manager, Sustainability at Eastman, and Dan Fitzgerald, Director of Product Sustainability at Stanley Black & Decker. They will be supported by Group Secretary Kendra Peavy, VP of Global Communications, Sustainability and Impact at S’well. They each provide a distinct perspective on the topic of circular plastics and packaging, and will help to curate a space for collaboration and solutions-oriented ideas.
Who should attend:
This discussion group is specifically for SB Corporate Members and select SB Affiliate Members who are invited to participate. It allows for a deeper dive into specific environmental and social impacts associated with single-use materials / design for products and packaging – especially those that involve plastic – and how to move toward solutions that support a circular economy. We encourage members who are responsible for product development, packaging engineering or procurement, product sustainability or circular design to join this discussion group, along with any others who are interested in the topic.
How to attend and participate:
SB Corporate and Affiliate Members can use the seats allotted for member network gatherings in their benefits package. One seat grants access for one person to attend this meeting and any recurring meeting associated with the Circular Plastics & Packaging discussion group during your membership term. Just register on this page. SB will allocate the seat(s) for your team accordingly.
As a reminder, discussion groups are designed to meet up to four times per year based on the needs of the participants. They also have the ability to transition into a working group with a distinct deliverable, if the group aligns on funding, timing and necessary support for delivery.
